Transform Your Organization With Design Thinking

Design Thinking does so much to transform organizations and it inspires innovation – and it can also help you create a life that you want – the process basically helps you decide what steps you need to take to live the way you currently only daydream about.
In very simple terms, Design Thinking in your life will help you figure out what is missing in your life. It is a solutions-based way of looking at existing problems – but you actually get to the root of the problem and take action accordingly.
Leaving my career in education to become an entrepreneur has allowed me to design the life I wanted based on the values in my life that are important to me. I’m not implying you have to quit your current role or even make drastic changes to your life, it simply means the Design Thinking process will help you figure out what patterns or obstacles you don’t want to face anymore, and then you can begin to design something that addresses those challenges.
I started the design process based on the things I didn’t want for my life anymore, a few examples include:
- I didn’t want to miss out on things like picking my children up from school the odd time
- I didn’t want to have a 9-5 job
- I didn’t want to manage adults
- I didn’t want to do the same thing each day
Designing my life the way I wanted was a collaborative effort. It definitely isn’t a one-person undertaking, there were sacrifices and risks involved in those changes, and it doesn’t mean that my life is without challenges. It simply means that my life is now centered around the values that are important to me, and it so happened that my career change was necessary in order to live by those values.
Perhaps for you, Design Thinking will help improve relationships with your partner, allow you to start a new hobby, or make more time for your children. Perhaps it will cause you to look at your leadership strategies or maybe you’ll decide to take a new course. Whatever the outcome is, I can guarantee that when you decide what is really important in your life and build everything else around that, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do this twenty years earlier.
